visionaire magazine goes electric
new york based limited-edition fashion and art publication visionaire magazine goes electric this month for it’s 57th issue, drawing inspiration from Daimler’s fortwo smart car. visionaire 57 “2010” is the plug-in electric issue of the publication. 52 internationally renown curators and art collectors were recruited to select 365 works of art, making this issue, in the form of an electronic daily calendar, a groud-breaking compendium of contemporary art.

for those not familiar with the pub, visionaire was launched in 1991 as a forum for creative expression. the issues are pricey and printed in very limited quantities, making them uber collectible and difficult to find. (think telescoping lightsaber darth vader action figure from 1978 but not that pricey.) each issue is devoted to a theme that informs the editorial content and format, making them unique and different from each issue. ”the magazine has always been a playground for leading designers, artists, photographers, and thinkers,” according the the new yorker. it’s pretty much a couture version of a magazine.
daimler has always done a great job applying their “smart” brand to all kinds of non-vehicle products. their partnership with visionaire coupled with the use of forward thinking technology and a sustainable concept is totally on-brand. i especially like the smart car shaped wall plug. kudos to both brands for exploring a new format! hope to get my hands on this issue soon!
